A boundary microphone is great for recording the sound of your bass drum. The downside, however, is that the vibrations may cause it to move about. The Kelly SHU Flatz prevents this from happening and isolates it from any unwanted noises caused by the vibrations. Plus, the microphone will be much closer to the point where the sound originates, making it the ideal way to record your bass drum. There are three versions of the Flatz with an optimal fit for their respective microphones - this one being made for the Shure SM 91.

Mounting the Flatz.

The Kelly SHU shock mount system was developed specifically for use inside a bass drum. You can install the system within minutes without having to drill into the shell, because the Flatz can be mounted on the screws that are already inside the drum. Once it is installed, the Flatz will hold the Shure SM 91 in place so firmly, that you can actually leave it there when transporting your drums. That makes this the ideal system for the touring musician - your kick drum will always sound just right. To make everything as clear as possible, you will also receive an installation manual with illustrated instructions.

Many advantages

The Flatz is available in three different versions, this one being suited for the Shure SM 91. It is also available for the Sennheiser E 901 and the Shure Beta 91/91A. The Flatz mounts the boundary microphone in the middle of the shell, close to the beater. That is the ideal placement for recording and your mic will never move around. It is suspended inside the shell, reducing any unwanted noise caused by vibrations.
